Cookbooks

Goodmorning sunshine!

Today is a great day! Yes it is! It is because I say it is. It is because I feel it is. It is because I am going to make it that way. Period.

Yesterday, while our house cleaners were here (thank you handsome for making that possible!), the girls and I re-organized the garage and deep cleaned the back yard. And by the girls and I did it- I mean: the girls played and I did it. Because that’s kids right?! I want to clean and organize and they want to take out everything they haven’t even thought about in months! Things that I want to put in the garage sale pile because it hasn’t been played with in a year, now becomes their favorite toy! They just simply cannot part with it.

And I’m on a roll right now- let me tell you! I’ve gone through the girls rooms and our laundry room and the kitchen drawers and the books we don’t read and the toys we don’t play with and the clothes that don’t fit- this house has been weeded with a fine-toothed comb! And as I continue to tell my husband and my kids what hoarders they are and that were it not for me getting rid of stuff, we’d be living in piles of junk- I opened a cabinet in our kitchen that I hadn’t gone through yet. It’s the one we barely open. Cookbooks.

You see, cooking skips generations in my family. My great grandmother came across from Hungary and became a cook for a wealthy family in New York. She had the touch. She then had 5 children including my grandmother who was not blessed with that magic touch in the kitchen. So then my mother began cooking as a young girl and loves being in the kitchen and she’s GREAT at it! Well you can figure out the pattern for how it’s been going for me…lousy! My husband jokes that I burn soup. Of course, it doesn’t help that every person in my house likes different things! My husband and I have the same palate so I could easily cook for the two of us and enjoy it! But I have 2 kids that are EACH picky little monsters and gramps is a steak and potatoes kinda guy- but it has to be bought at certain places and certain types of meat and cooked certain ways and without certain ingredients…you catch my drift. So I genuinely have ZERO interest in the kitchen. I love to bake cookies during Christmas time though! I love to make monkey bread for Christmas morning! I love putting together charcuterie boards for get togethers! And these cookbooks that I have bought over the years have 2 or 3 recipes I would LOVE to make…one day. I have Disney cookbooks and Harry Potter cookbooks and unicorn cookbooks and southern cookbooks…sitting in the cabinet collecting dust. I’ve had dreams of Disney themed dinner/movie nights. But they stay just that: dreams. Am I going to get rid of them at the garage sale? Probably not. Am I allowed one cabinet of hoarding? I think so.

So maybe while I am pointing the finger at my family for hoarding…I need to realize the 4 pointing back at me.

Either way, I am still doing the garage sale. And still getting rid of everything in the pile already. And if anyone wants a cookbook in particular…maybe I can wrap my head around it going to a better home…and like Elsa says…let it go.
