September and October 2020

It has officially been 7 months since we started this lockdown/quarantine life. To quote JVN, “Can you BELIEVE?!” I’ve gotten to this weird and conflicting point where I’m feeling claustrophobic in our Chicago apartment, but missing my bed when we travel elsewhere. I’m also missing going into the office and seeing my colleagues but am enjoying (maybe too much) being able to sleep in and groggily walk the 10 steps to my kitchen counter to start my workday. We’ve also gotten a lot of bee visitors in our apartment recently so that’s just adding onto this mess that is 2020.

July and August 2020

As I was putting this month’s playlist and post together, I looked back at my April and May (skipped June’s post, sorry!) playlist posts and boy, was I not expecting that we’d be here more than 4 months later… still at home. Josh and I have been #blessed enough to still have jobs and to have the ability to work from anywhere with WiFi. Since our place in Chicago doesn’t have any outdoor space, we’ve been traveling around Michigan, bopping between up north and our family homes in metro-Detroit. Hours in Cranberry (my red fusion – judge me) requires lots of good new music, which leads me to this DOUBLE MONTH playlist. Quite a bit of *good vibes* songs in here to mellow out your q-tine anxiety 🙂

  • Say You Will – Kygo, Patrick Droney & Petey
  • U Move, I Move (feat. Jhene Aiko)
  • Slow Grenade (feat. Lauv) – Ellie Goulding

April 2020

This has been a hard three weeks for all of us and even harder weeks are to come. We all should be working from home by now, with the exception of essential workers (thanks, Mom & Stacy!). Working remotely can be a challenging adjustment for many people who weren’t used to it before, and we’re all just trying to figure out if we really CAN take that WebEx meeting from our couch while wearing PJ bottoms and a button down. It’s weird.

One piece of advice that I have for you right now is to mix up where you work every day. Some days call for sitting in your comfy La-Z-Boy by the window, while others require sitting at your desk staring at an Excel file for 8 hours. If you’re anything like me, no day is the same. The one thing that DOES remain the same is my background music. April’s playlist is the perfect mix of upbeat and chill tunes to get you in the mood for whatever day you have in store.

Here’s what you’ll find:

  • Wildflower – 5 Seconds of Summer
  • Believe (feat. Justin Timberlake) – Meek Mill
  • Maniac – Conan Gray
  • Forever Yours (Avicii Tribute) – Kygo, Avicii, & Sandro Cavazza
  • Kings & Queens – Ava Max

  • Forever – FLETCHER

  • Break My Heart – Dua Lipa
  • Better Days – OneRepublic
  • Last Time I Say Sorry – Kane Brown & John Legend (unexpected collab, but I’m cool with it)
  • Aftertaste (feat. Morgan St. Jean) – Loud Luxury
  • Like It Is – Kygo, Zara Larsson, & Tyga
  • I Love You’s – Hailee Steinfeld
  • Break Up Song – Little Mix
  • julia – Jeremy Zucker
  • Good Example – R3HAB & Andy Grammer
  • OK, All Right – David Archuleta (I smell a comeback!)

January 2020

It never fails that every January, I struggle with writing the new year on my work. From writing the new date in the top right corner of my homework in high school to saving any new Excel documents for work, it’s inevitable that I put the previous year for at least the first week of the new year. Anyone else?

Anyway… this month’s playlist has a lot of high intensity, high BPM, dance jams that are just ready to help you push through your new workout routine that you’ll hopefully maintain past February 15th. I’m not sure if I just gravitate toward these upbeat songs or if artists tend to release these hits around this time of year knowing that we’ll need an awesome workout playlist?

Here’s what’s on this month’s list:

  • Chills – Why Don’t We
  • Yummy – Justin Bieber
  • Where I’m Going (feat. Ronak) – Miles Away

December 2019

Well, folks. It’s here. The last monthly playlist of the year (and DECADE?!?!?!).

I’m going to let that one sit in for a sec.

Okay, now that you’ve fully come to terms with the fact that we are about to enter another decade (WHAAAAAAA?!), it’s time to see what’s on the December playlist. It’s a shorter one this month because if you’re like me, you most likely have NSYNC’s “Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays” + John Legend’s “What Christmas Means to Me” on repeat already and don’t have that much time for normal jams. Also, you’re probably busy watching every A Christmas Prince or Vanessa Hudgens Christmas installment on Netflix, so obviously can’t simultaneously listen to music and pay attention. It’s also hard to hear regular music over the sound of you munching on Christmas cookies. I’m just making it easier on you guys, really.

Here’s what you’d hear on December’s playlist:

  • Kissing Other People – Lennon Stella (Reminder that this is the girl from Nashville tv show with Hayden P.)
  • All This Time – Deorro
  • Luna – Bombay Bicycle Club
  • Up All Night – Khalid (He can do no wrong)
  • Watermelon Sugar – Harry Styles
  • Live Before I Die – Naughty Boy & Mike Posner
  • Mean It – Lauv & LANY
  • Gonna Get Funky – GRiZ
  • Feels Like – Midsplit, Proto & Chin Chilla
  • Say Hi – Codeko & Austin Mahone
  • Used to Love – Martin Garrix & Dean Lewis
  • Now I’m In It – HAIM
  • Say It Again – AJ Mitchell
  • Crash Into Me – Steve Aoki & Darren Criss (Had this one on repeat for a bit yesterday. Before reverting back to holiday music – I’m not a monster.)
  • One Foot – Walk The Moon
  • Fades Away (feat. MishCatt) [Tribute Concert Version] – Avicii
  • Put A Little Love On Me – Niall Horan (Once again, the OneD guys released new music on the same day. Do their agents talk? Is this planned? Would love to know.)
  • Family (with Kygo) – The Chainsmokers & Kygo
  • Adore You – Harry Styles

Alright, that’s it. Just over an hour of music for ya. As always, head over to Spotify or Apple Music, search “baconama.” Spotify’s playlists are titled “Against the Grain_December 2019” and Apple Music’s are just “December 2019.” Hope you enjoy and happy holidays, everyone!
